The war in Ukraine prevents Russia from basing nuclear capable bombers in Venezuela that would violate US airspace. The financial cost to the taxpayer of deploying defensive fighter aircraft along the US border will likely be greater than whatever aid we provide to Ukraine.
Russia is devoting considerable resources to fighting the war in Ukraine. As a result, Russian funding available to build and maintain nuclear forces, designed specifically to attack the US homeland, will be substantially reduced. We probably all can sleep easier at night knowing that the US is less likely to be a nuclear wasteland when we wake up.
Isolationism does not work. The US started as a nation by paying a large portion of the national budget directly to the Barbary pirates so that they would not attack US ships. This would be like paying the Russians not to nuke the US.
Finally, the Russians should fear what Reagan did to the Soviet Union in Afghanistan (USSR eventually collapsed), could happen to Russia in Ukraine.
